Liverpool make Trent Alexander-Arnold decision ahead of Genk Champions League clash

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of Liverpool's Champions League clash at Genk.

Alexander-Arnold wasn't among the party that jetted out to Belgium on Tuesday afternoon for the Group E clash the following day.

The right-back is suffering from a virus, and has been left at home with the European champions not wanting to potentially expose any of the rest of the squad to the illness.

Alexander-Arnold's absence means Joe Gomez is likely to fill in on the right side of defence, although James Milner could be an option.

While the absence of the defender is a blow, the Reds are likely to welcome back Mohamed Salah.

Salah sat out Sunday's draw at Manchester United, but was back training at Melwood on Tuesday afternoon.

Liverpool are looking for their first Champions League group stage away win since 2017 having lost three times last season and opened their current campaign with a 2-0 loss at Napoli.
