Liverpool make strong statement with announcement of FA Cup ticket details

Liverpool have announced a huge reduction in ticket prices for their FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury Town at Anfield next month.

The Reds will host the League One side after Sunday's fourth round tie at New Meadow ended in a 2-2 draw following a spirited fightback from Sam Rickett's team in the second half.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp announced after the game that Liverpool would be fielding a youth team for the return tie, with Under-23 boss Neil Critchley set to deputise in the dugout in place of the German next week.

Klopp said he intended to "respect" the Premier League's winter break by sitting out the FA Cup replay which is likely to be played on either Tuesday February 4 or Wednesday February 5, which has led to calls a pricing restructure for supporters.

Officials at Liverpool have been in discussions with supporter groups since the draw as part of the regular fan forums, with a view to gain feedback on a fair pricing structure for the visit of the Shrews.

The ECHO understands the Reds have also reached out to their visitors to find an agreeable solution, with the League One outfit in line for a potentially lucrative pay-day as a result of their efforts on Sunday afternoon in Shropshire.

The Reds have been able to agree on a set of prices that are largely aimed at getting young supporters into the ground next week, with adults being asked to pay £15 a ticket.

Young adults will pay just £5 to enter, while children can watch the match for just £1 as the Reds aim to boost the attendance for a game that is now almost certain to be played by an Academy line-up and managed by the club's Under-23 boss Critchley.

Speaking after the draw at New Meadow on Sunday, Klopp said of his plans for next week's game: “In April 2019 we got a letter from the Premier League, I think, where they asked us to respect the winter break and not to organise international friendlies or competitive games. We respect that.

“So I said to the boys already two weeks ago that we will have a winter break which means we will not be there. It will be the kids who play that game.

“You cannot deal with us like nobody cares about it. I know that it's not very popular but that's the way I see it.

“The Premier League asked us to respect the winter break. That's what we do. If the FA doesn't respect that, then we cannot change it. We will not be there.

“Does that mean I won't be there? Yes. Neil Critchley will be in charge.”

Liverpool will travel to Chelsea for the fifth round in March if Critchley's youngsters can see off the Shrews at Anfield.
