Liverpool 'make fresh Levi Colwill enquiry' as Mauricio Pochettino faces transfer call

Liverpool are set to press Mauricio Pochettino into making a big call on Levi Colwill this summer as they continue their summer spending spree.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has already made two big money additions to his squad, firstly signing Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for £37million. And that was followed by Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai signing from RB Leipzig for a fee of £60million.

But the Reds aren't done there, with a host of players having left Anfield this summer. And Klopp, keen for more reinforcements after failing to qualify for the Champions League last season, is now targeting Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.

The England Under-21 international impressed on loan at Brighton last season, and risked the wrath of Blues fans when he posted pictures of himself enjoying night out as his parent club were hammered 4-0 at Manchester United. The Seagulls have since been keen on a permanent deal, but have had two bids rejected.

But according to Football London, Klopp is a big admirer of the centre back after he impressed against the Reds in both league and FA Cup action last season. And with the future of Joel Matip still uncertain, the 20-year-old is seen by Anfield chiefs as a long term solution.

However, Pochettino is reportedly reluctant to make Colwill part of his ongoing summer clearout. The Argentinian boss is set to hold face to face talks with the rising star this month, and are keen to pin him down to a contract extension.

The player has been at Chelsea since 2021, but didn't make a single appearance for the first team in his debut season. He then spent the next campaign at Huddersfield Town on loan, before heading to Brighton.

He was in action on Wednesday night as England under-21s player their European Championship semi final against Israel. The Three Lions prevailed 3-0, with Colwill playing 90 minutes at centre back.
