Liverpool make stunning change to AXA Training Centre

A mural celebrating all of Liverpool’s cup-winning goalkeepers has been unveiled at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.

The artwork features club legends such as Ray Clemence and Bruce Grobbelaar, alongside current Reds number one Alisson.

Situated behind one of the goals at the Training Centre, the mural carries the caption: “In safe hands”.

A mix of modern day heroes and ‘keepers from Liverpool ’s early years, each image on the design is accompanied by their name, number of appearances, and medal totals.

The mural was created by Liverpool-based artist John Culshaw, who posted images of his work on Twitter.

Alisson takes centre stage next to the 2020 Premier League trophy, while David James is pictured beneath him, celebrating Liverpool’s 1995 League Cup win.

In one of the most recognisable images in the club’s history, Jerzy Dudek has his arms outstretched, celebrating Andriy Shevchenko’s decisive penalty miss in the 2005 Champions League Final.

The Polish ‘keeper is flanked by early twentieth century stopper Sam Hardy, winner of the First Division in 1906, and Liverpool legend Tommy Lawrence, who played a pivotal role in the success of Bill Shankly’s side.

Alisson is not the only current player who appears on the mural with Adrian also taking pride of place for his role in winning the 2019 UEFA Super Cup.

John Culshaw, the artist responsible for the mural, already has several pieces around the city, including the recent mural dedicated to Steven Gerrard.

Unveiled last month, the artwork depicted the Reds legend celebrating one of his many goals for the club on the side of The Sandon Complex in Anfield.
