Ben Davies is closing in on a loan move to Sheffield United.
The Liverpool defender is yet to make his competitive debut at Anfield having joined from Preston North End in January for an initial £500,000.
Davies has been tracked by Celtic, Burnley and Bournemouth in recent weeks but the Blades have remained in the box seat throughout.
United boss Slavisa Jokanovic has been persistent in his efforts to bring the left-footed centre-half to Bramall Lane and the Championship side are close to concluding a loan deal.
Liverpool have been open to the right offer to make a move for Davies permanent, but have always felt that a loan switch has been the more realistic option this summer.
With Ibrahima Konate on board from RB Leipzig for £36million, Davies’ chances of game-time appear remote following the return to fitness of defensive trio Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.
Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams also remain at the club too, although the former is understood to be of interest to several in the Premier League.
Davies has not played for the Reds in a competitive game since joining at the end of January, with Jurgen Klopp often preferring to utilise Fabinho at the back before Phillips and Williams establishes a partnership that helped them during a 10-game unbeaten run in the final couple of months of the campaign.
He made his Anfield debut in the 3-1 win over Osasuna on Monday in the final pre-season game of the summer.
