Liverpool looks completely different 24 hours on with crazy scenes as shops reopen

There were huge queues across Liverpool today as stores reopened after weeks of being closed.

Hundreds of people waited in line, at two metre distances, outside Sports Direct in Aintree, Primark on Church Street and Zara in Liverpool ONE.

Some people were willing to wait long before stores opened and queues remained in place through the day, due to shops having a cap on the number of people allowed inside.

Pictures taken yesterday in the city centre show just how different it looked today, as the city got back on its feet following weeks for stores closures.

Since the lockdown was put in place on March 23, only essential retailers selling food and medicine have been allowed to reopen.

There were mixed reactions to the queues, with some people saying they couldn’t understand why people would want to wait in line to go shopping, while others were glad to see businesses getting back on their feet.

Commenting on the Liverpool’s ECHO’s Facebook pages, reader Catherine Collins said: “Gone 12 weeks without a primark surely a few more days won't make a difference, let things settle down a bit. Absolutely ridiculous.”

Jan Alison Sherlock added: “Couldn't be bothered I hate walking round shops at the best of times, give me a nice country walk anyday”.

But Amy Dodd said: “No other way to shop at the moment other than to queue outside. If people have the patience to do so in these current times then have at it. Lots of shops need our patience now and our support by shopping in them.”

And Kelli Roberts added: “If people want to queue up for primark for a bit of normality then happy days. Why not. Same people moaning on the comments are also the same people who have had none social distancing bbqs in their garden's or been the beach.”

While Katherine Rannard added: “Its got to happen nice to see some normality back, praying all this works out”.
