Liverpool loanee shows positive signs as Bolton Wanderers utilise full-back option

Ian Evatt believes Owen Beck showed positive signs as he looks to earn a regular Bolton Wanderers place.

The full-back on loan from Liverpool was a standout performer against Barnsley and, after an interesting summer that saw him join Portuguese side Familicao initially, Beck finally looks settled back in the North West. His Familicao spell was cut short prior to the end of the summer transfer window due to limited minutes and once Bolton showed an interest, his parent club were keen to send him to more familiar surroundings.

After an adjustment period, 20-year-old Wales youth international has been made to wait for an opportunity to show what he is capable of but may well have taken that chance in his latest outing.

Evatt said: “I was really pleased for Owen Beck today. He’s had to be really patient. He’s had to work and wait for his time and his chance and worked extremely hard on the training pitch and I thought he was good when he came on as well, so that’s a positive.

“Owen is that Liverpool mould of a full-back which suits the way that we play. I think by his own admission, coming back from Portugal affected him a little bit and we’ve had to be extremely patient.

“But I was delighted with what he showed us against Barnsley. I’m delighted with his attitude and what he’s shown us on the training pitch and I still think he’s going to have a huge part to play for us this season.”
