Liverpool loanee continues to give Jurgen Klopp food for thought following weekend masterclass

Marjo Grujic was in danger of becoming a forgotten man at Liverpool.

The Serbian midfielder joined the Reds from Red Star Belgrade but has made just eight appearances since signing in 2016.

A brief loan spell with Cardiff City brought one goal in 13 Championship games leading to fears he might not make the grade at Anfield.

However, Grujic enjoyed a more successful period on loan with Hertha Berlin last season which convinced the German side to part with £2million to secure his services for another year.

The Liverpool midfielder is three years in to his five year contract and recent performances in the Bundesliga have shown he is capable of forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp's plans when he returns.

Hertha beat Fortuna Dusseldorf 3-1 on Friday with Grujic controlling the midfield. His performances was so impressive BT Sport highlighted just how influential he had been.

Grujic completed 61 passes, won 10 duels and completed five dribbles - pretty impressive for a deep-lying midfielder.

The Reds aren't short of choice in Grujic's position with three of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Gini Wijnaldum usually starting.

The 23-year-old would also be in competition with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Adam Lallana but Grujic's has shown his ability to break defensive lines with both his passing and dribbling.

He's also scored twice in eight games this season which is more than any of Liverpool's other central midfield options have managed.

Grujic will have to keep performing at the levels he has set himself if he wants to convince Klopp he is ready to play regularly for Liverpool but the initial signs are encouarging.
