Liverpool linked with move for former Bristol City defender after Premier League relegation

Liverpool are once again keen on a move for former Bristol City defender Lloyd Kelly, according to a report.

The current Bournemouth defender, who has played at left-back and centre-back this season for current club Bournemouth, has just been relegated and is facing a season back in the Championship.

However, the Premier League champions are keen to change that and want to bring him in to cover two positions for their title defence next season.

Jurgen Klopp tried to sign Kelly from Bristol City last season, however the Reds wanted to loan him out straight away, which Kelly wasn't keen on, and Bournemouth came calling early with a £13m bid.

He had a tricky first season in the Premier League, not making his debut in the league until June. However he was a diamond in the rough in Bournemouth's struggling defence and Klopp wants him to be an option at both centre-back and left-back next year, reports the Express.

The title winners have good options in those positions, with Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson being stalwarts at the club this season, but Kelly would add strength in depth behind the senior players.

Bournemouth will have to have a big clear out this summer following their relegation, with several players on big wages and they have reportedly today accepted a £41m bid for Nathan Ake from Manchester City.

Losing Ake and Kelly will be a big blow, however the big fees they will likely be able to collect should give them room to recruit.

Kelly came through the ranks at Bristol City before making the left-back spot his own last season, playing 32 times in the Championship as the Robins finished in 8th place.

The left-back, alongside Adam Webster, were big losses for a Bristol City side which had one of the best defences in the Championship, but Kelly was replaced by Chelsea defender Jay Dasilva.
