Liverpool linked with midfielder who Jamie Carragher raved about

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has praised a midfielder who has been linked with a move to Anfield.

The summer transfer window is fast approaching, and the Reds continue to be mooted with a host of potential new signings. Two names which are dominating the rumour mill are Jude Bellingham and Mason Mount, but they are not alone.

Another player who Liverpool have been credited with an interest in is Nicolo Barella. The Inter Milan midfielder has been tipped to be a possible target for the Reds ever since the summer of 2021, when he starred for Italy at the European Championships.

Since then, rumours linking Liverpool with a move for Barella may have quietened down but they have not been fully extinguished. And now Carragher has spoken at length about the ability of the Italy international.

Carragher explains why he thinks Barella is among the best midfielders in Europe. The Reds legend also thinks that a move to the Premier League could be on the cards, amid links with Liverpool.

“When you think about how teams set up now, you see Inter play with a back three with five in midfield, or a 4-3-3, and I think he’s probably one of the best in Europe playing in that tucked in, right sided central midfield position,” Carragher told CBS Sports.

“He’s box-to-box, he gets goals from there. We saw how outstanding he was for his national team in winning the European Championships.”

He added: “He’s that player who can open things up, he gets in there, but that inside right position now is so important in football and can you make runs from that position?

“He makes runs ahead of the striker. And he’s a huge goal threat.

“Any top team needs to have goals from midfield. It’ll be really interesting if he actually stays at Inter, but you think one day would he go the Premier League or one of the Spanish giants because I certainly think he has the ability to do so.”
