Liverpool linked to Leicester City star in triple swoop that raises questions over Bristol City man's future

Fillip Benkovic's future at Leicester City is increasingly unclear with Liverpool tipped to sign the Foxes' star defender Caglar Soyuncu.

Benkovic is on loan at Bristol City and, with Leicester linked to Kristoffer Ajer at Celtic, it had been speculated that the centre-back may be available in the summer due to falling down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.

The Robins are set to keep Benkovic until the end of the season thanks to a change in loan rules from the Premier League due to the coronavirus.

With Ashley Williams out of contract at the end of the season and West Brom said to be interested in Taylor Moore, City may well be on the lookout for a centre-back in the transfer window, so could well take an interest in Benkovic's future.

Yet Leicester could well be missing some centre-backs come the start of next season.

Ryan Bennett is currently on loan from Wolves in a move that initially allowed Benkovic to join Bristol City, whilst Wes Morgan is out of contract.

The addition of Ajer would obviously add more depth to Leicester's defence, but that would be significantly dented if Soyuncu was to leave.

After overtures from Soyuncu's agent over a potential move, Liverpool legend John Barnes believes the player would be a perfect fit at Anfield, with Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho and Real Sociedad's Diego Llorente also mentioned.

"Soyuncu would fit in well at any club," Barnes told GentingBet.

"He's taken the role of centre-back at Leicester by the scruff of the neck and he's really improved and given something extra as well as he’s good on the ball.

"If Leicester did want to sell, Soyuncu could go to any of the top clubs."

Should City be keeping tabs on a centre-back, Soyuncu's future could well play a big impact in whether Benkovic is available on a permanent deal or not.
