Liverpool-linked Timo Werner's future in doubt as RB Leipzig chief offers transfer warning

Timo Werner's hopes of a move to the Premier League may be scuppered due to the knock on affects of the coronavirus, claims RB Leipzig's sporting director.

The German forward has been lethal in front of goal this season scoring 21 times in 25 Bundesliga games before football around the world grinded to a halt.

Werner is keen on a move to England with Liverpool one of several teams to be linked with his signature.

They could face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea, but Leipzig chief Markus Krosche has warned potential suitors that the striker may be forced to stay put.

He told Sport1: "It is clear that Timo has attracted interest from other clubs for his great performances with his goals and assists.

"England has the same problems as we do. The crisis affects not just one league, it has a global impact, and we cannot say whether things will be the same in six months.”

Werner has a contract in Germany until 2023 leaving Leipzig in a strong position with Krosche also admitting that the club's own transfer plans have been disrupted.

And when asked whether that meant Werner could remain at Leipzig he responded: "Everything is possible.

"We do not know how the transfer market is developing. We are looking into a very foggy glass ball. We do not know what our resources are and what the other clubs have in terms of opportunities."

Leipzig are in contention for the Bundesliga title and have progressed into the last eight of the Champions League.

Angelino, on loan from Manchester City and Patrick Schick, on loan from Roma are both wanted permanently but the current climate has put those deals in doubt.
