Liverpool lineups for Strasbourg as Darwin Nunez dilemma emerges and Fabio Carvalho decision made

Darwin dilemma for Klopp - Ian Doyle

The big question today is - will Darwin Nunez start for Liverpool?

After all the excitement of yesterday in the Community Shield, I'd be tempted to resist throwing the Uruguayan in from the off and instead introduce him at half-time.

Jurgen Klopp, though, will still be able to put out a reasonably strong side against Strasbourg for the friendly at Anfield.

None of the outfield starters against Manchester City should be involved, so intense was the game.

Needs must in goal, however, and Adrian can begin with Harvey Davies coming on at the interval.

In defence, Isaac Mabaya and James Milner can play right-back and left-back respectively, with Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate the centre-backs.

The midfield sees Tyler Morton and Naby Keita with Stefan Bajcetic in the holding midfield role. And in attack, Harvey Elliott is on the right, Curtis Jones on the left with Fabio Carvalho having a try-out in the false nine role.

My team (4-3-3): Adrian; Mabaya, Gomez, Konate, Milner; Bajcetic, Morton, Keita; Elliott, Carvalho, Jones

Anfield debuts aplenty - Keifer Macdonald

So here we are, less than 24 hours after the new season's arrival was marked by the annual Community Shield encounter, Liverpool are back in action once again tonight as they face Ligue 1 side Strasbourg at Anfield.

Truth be told, Sunday evening's friendly will undoubtedly be more of a sluggish affair than the one witnessed during the Reds' 3-1 victory over Manchester City at the King Power.

Though for members of Jurgen Klopp's squad, the final pre-season fixture of an intense summer schedule will provide some much-needed minutes in the tank ahead of the Premier League curtain-raiser next weekend.

Given that neither Alisson Becker nor Caoimhin Kelleher will be fit for the contest, Harvey Davies will get the nod for his first run out the hallowed Anfield turf, with Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate lining up in front of the 18-year-old Scouser.

Isaac Mabaya and Luke Chambers, who have largely impressed during pre-season already, will also be given their first senior outings on home territory by Klopp.

In midfield, Naby Keita, Stefan Bajcetic and Curtis Jones. While Fabio Carvalho, Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez line up in the attack.

My team (4-3-3): Davies, Mabaya, Gomez, Konate, Chambers; Bajcetic, Keita, Jones; Elliott, Carvalho, Nunez

Build momentum for Fulham - Stephen Killen

Jurgen Klopp is no stranger to lamenting fixture schedules and he also isn't afraid to do friendlies in short succession. The kick-off to the Premier League season is just five days away and if yesterday was anything to go by, Liverpool aren't far away from their peak. If City's showing is anything to go by, the last thing you need to be going into the upcoming campaign is to be undercooked.

With the euphoria of yesterday's win over Manchester City fresh in the players' minds, I expect an unchanged line-up to the team that started at the King Power Stadium with an eye on building fluidity for the trip to Fulham.

The likelihood is there will be wholesale changes throughout the contest with the likes of the second-half substitutes from the Community Shield; Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Naby Keita and James Milner all will enjoy longer spells in action that what they featured for yesterday.

My team (4-3-3): Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Thiago, Henderson; Salah, Firmino, Diaz
