Liverpool lineup and team news: Virgil van Dijk out; Jordan Henderson centre-back vs Monterrey

Jordan Henderson has been handed the role of makeshift centre-back as Virgil van Dijk misses Liverpool's Club World Cup semi-final clash with Monterrey.

Van Dijk was absent from the Reds' first training session out in Qatar but returned for the second amid an insistence from the club that he was not carrying an injury.

However, it has now been confirmed that the Dutchman has been left out of this evening's squad entirely due to illness, with club captain Henderson partnering Joe Gomez at the heart of defence in his stead.

Jurgen Klopp also rings the changes elsewhere, with Adam Lallana given a start in the holding midfield position, while Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi come in for Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino up top.

The European champions have taken the unusual step of naming two goalkeepers on their bench.

Liverpool lineup: Alisson, Milner, Gomez, Henderson, Robertson, Lallana, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaqiri, Salah, Origi.

Subs: Adrian, Lonergan, Firmino, Mane, Jones, Alexander-Arnold, Williams
