Liverpool predicted line ups vs Leeds United as Fabinho dropped and Takumi Minamino starts

Ian Doyle - Naby Keita starts

The Premier League is back - about five minutes after the last season finished.

And with not much change to the Liverpool first-team squad in the meantime, expect much of the same again when Leeds United come calling on Saturday evening.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold fit, the defence is the usual back four with Alisson Becker between the sticks.

Joel Matip's availability gives Jurgen Klopp options, but it's too soon for him to start.

The front three are, well, the front three, although Takumi Minamino is pushing them close now.

Which leaves the midfield.

There's little point in rushing Jordan Henderson back into the side, so Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum can start.

Which leaves one position between old Leeds boy James Milner and the in-form Naby Keita.

Sorry, James. Not this time.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Paul Gorst - James Milner starts

So begins Liverpool's first title defence since 1990 - and what better way to start than with a visit from another team of champions in Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United.

Jurgen Klopp's options at the back are pretty thin on the ground and the big debate centres around the middle of the back four and just who partners Virgil van Dijk.

Joel Matip and Joe Gomez will be big rivals in that respect this season but I'm going to stick with the England international, for now.

Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson naturally complete that back five before thoughts turn to the midfield.

Jordan Henderson isn't risked for me and although he is a big loss, I think Liverpool have enough about them to see off the threat of the newly-promoted side.

Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum are in and there's a place for James Milner too as I think he'll be desperate to perform against his boyhood club.

There are no shocks up top. It's Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Milner; Salah, Mane, Firmino.

Theo Squires - Gini Wijnaldum partners Naby Keita

It seems like only yesterday we were debating who Jurgen Klopp should start for Liverpool’s title run-in as they marched towards the Premier League title, with two players in particular causing the most debate.

Takumi Minamino and Naby Keita.

Now, after a promising pre-season I think there is no debate to be had. The duo have to start.

The Japan international really impressed me in that number 10 role against Blackpool last weekend with the front three in their traditional positions so I’d like to see Klopp stick with that set-up.

Meanwhile in midfield, I don’t think Jordan Henderson should be risked from the start while Fabinho has looked rather rusty in pre-season, meaning Gini Wijnaldum can ignore speculation about his future to partner Keita in the middle.

And, as always, the back five picks itself. Hopefully no opening day injury to Alisson this year, please!

My team (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Keita, Wijnaldum; Salah, Minamino, Mane; Firmino.

Caoimhe O'Neill - Fabinho out and Takumi Minamino in

Here we go again, the Champions of England are back in action.

It's going to be a tough opening game against a motivated Leeds United but one I'm backing Liverpool to win.

Alisson is of course in goal. Virgil van Dijk is the leader at the back with Joe Gomez for company. I wouldn't be massively surprised if Joel Matip wins the toss to partner Van Dijk but I'm giving the Englishman the nod.

Full-back royalty Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson return to their flanking thrones.

Meanwhile, the midfield as always presents a bit of a conundrum for Jurgen Klopp. For me James Milner must start against his former club with Jordan Henderson to pick up minutes in the second half.

Fabinho looked rusty against Blackpool and misses out for a bit here with Naby Keita and Takumi Minamino called into action after both putting in a solid pre-season showing.

The Japanese international will dazzle in behind a front three comprised of the usual goalscorers; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

My team (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Robertson, Van Dijk, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold; Keita, Milner; Minamino; Mane, Firmino; Salah.
