Liverpool line ups for Leeds as Thiago and Diogo Jota decisions await

Paul Gorst: So Liverpool travel to Leeds with the chance, remarkably, to finish the night inside the top four of the Premier League.

Cause for optimism then? Well, that's if this game even matters anymore with the impending - and largely unwanted - arrival of the Super League, but the show goes on, for now.

The back five shall remain unchanged.

Jurgen Klopp finally has something of a settled defence and Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak will continue at the heart of the backline with the usual incumbents at right and left-back.

In midfield, Fabinho stays at the base of the midfield three, but I am going to also retain James Milner against his boyhood club alongside Gini Wijnaldum.

Thiago Alcantara, just, misses the cut.

Up top, Roberto Firmino can take a breather in favour of Diogo Jota.

My team: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Kabak. Phillips, Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Milner; Salah, Jota, Mane.

Ian Doyle: Hey everyone! There's a game on tonight! Come back!

And it's actually quite a big game too. Regardless of what happens with the Lesser Super League (there's only one Super League and it's the one St Helens rugby league team are brilliant in) it's probably not going to be kicking off any time soon.

Legal wranglings will see to that is delayed. As will the prospect of anyone being kicked out of the Champions League.

So it's imperative Liverpool give themselves the best chance possible of finishing in the top four by beating Leeds United tonight at Elland Road.

By the way, it's impossible not to feel sympathy for Jurgen Klopp and his players.

It's not their fault this is happening and yet you can bet the entire country - including some of their own fans - will want them to lose tonight.

Such is life. And sport. And business. And politics.

"This is all very well, Ian," you may be saying. "But what do you think the Liverpool team should be tonight?"

Well...

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Kabak, Robertson; Fabinho, Milner, Thiago; Salah, Mane, Jota.

Mark Wakefield: On a personal level I've found it difficult to get too excited about tonight's game in truth, mainly because of the proposed European Super League.

Nobody knows what is going to happen next, but if the plan does go ahead then does a match that could see Liverpool move into the top four matter a great deal anymore?

Anyway, for this game I think two things are clear. Thiago Alcantara has to start and so does Diogo Jota.

It was a bizarre call to leave them both out against Real Madrid, but that cannot continue and they both have to start, it's that simple.

As for the rest of the team it pretty much picks itself, or certainly the back five does, anyway.

In midfield I've gone with Gini Wijnaldum alongside Thiago and Fabinho, although part of me did consider Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a moment.

Then up front Mohamed Salah is an obvious selection, and I've decided to go with Roberto Firmino and drop Sadio Mane.

The Reds No.10 has been out of form for a while now, while Firmino did show glimpses against Real of what he's all about.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Kabak, Robertson; Fabinho, Thiago, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Jota
