Liverpool light up Anfield with anti-racism message ahead of Wolves clash

Liverpool have lit up Anfield with an anti-racism message ahead of tonight's Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After playing in empty stadiums since March, the Reds will welcome 2,000 lucky supporters back to Anfield this evening for the visit of Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

And ahead of Liverpool supporters' return to Anfield, the club has displayed a message on the outside of the ground, lit up in bright, bold letters.

The message said: "The stadiums have been empty.

"For some players, the silence brought pressure. For some, it brought peace.

"As we return to the stands. Let us promise to leave racism where it belongs.

"In the past."

Following Saturday's events at The Den, when a section of Millwall fans were heard booing when the players took the knee, Kick It Out, who have been long-term pioneers aiming to remove racism from football, released a statement.

It read: "We are saddened by the behaviour of fans booing the players taking the knee today at Millwall.

"What this demonstrates is that players are right to continue standing up to discrimination, whether that is through taking the knee or speaking out.

"The fight for racial equality continues and we will continue to work closely with clubs across the country to tackle discrimination in all its forms.

"We applaud the players for taking a stand and defying the hate shown today."
