Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso responds to Bayern Munich after Thiago Alcantara transfer

Liverpool fans are delighted this evening after the club confirmed the signing of Thiago Alcantara and even former Reds players have responded to the news.

The 29-year-old penned a four-year deal at Anfield after arriving from Bayern Munich in a deal worth an initial £20m.

In his first interview with the club, the two-time Champions League winner said: “When the years are passing, you are trying to win as much as you can – and when you win, you want to win more.

"I think this club describes what I am as well; I want to achieve all of the goals, win as many trophies as possible.

"It also [has] this kind of family [feeling] that I need because we [like to] have a very close relationship with the club and I think I will feel this, I will have this feeling, with this club as well.”

The news was met with great delight on social media, with Liverpool fans delighted to see months of speculation brought to an end by Thiago's arrival on Merseyside.

However, his transfer has also pleased former Liverpool and Bayern man, Xabi Alonso.

The former Reds midfielder was quick to respond on Instagram after the German club posted their parting comment on Liverpool's official announcement.

Bayern wrote: "Take good care of our boy #MiaSanMia", to which Alonso replied: "Sure they will".

Thiago has since revealed he asked former Bayern and Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso about the club and city ahead of his move and explained how he 'helped take his last step'.

He also shared a touching message to his former club ahead of the announcement.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Thiago Alacantra could be in line for an instant Liverpool debut at Chelsea on Sunday.
