Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said he would not be in agreement with "merging seasons" when football eventually resumes.
Practically all sport in the UK has been suspended as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, with the SPL called off until further notice.
There is widespread debate as to how domestic seasons will be concluded, with some suggesting this summer's European Championship should be postponed until next summer so that leagues can be finished.
But speaking to Rangers TV Gerrard said there could be the danger of players being overworked by playing too many matches too close together.
"I'm not one who thinks we should be merging seasons and this type of stuff because that has different types of problems for the players, playing too much football in a short space of time," Gerrard said.

"I think we have to be patient. Football is secondary right now. What we have to do is everything we can at the training ground and the club to protect the players so they don't contract the virus, because then it has a lot more complications."
Gerrard will also no doubt be keeping an eye on the fortunes of his former side Liverpool, with supporters fearing they may be denied a first league title in 30 years if the season is cancelled.
Premier League chiefs are expected to meet on Thursday to discuss what is to be done to resolve the current campaign.
According to the Evening Standard the league may need to take a vote from clubs on whether to scrap the season altogether.

Premier League rules state that a majority of 14 clubs must agree in order for any new legislation to be passed.
There are a number of ideas which have already been proposed, such as postponing Euro 2020 until next year and finishing the current season in the summer, or finishing the league with the positions as they are, meaning Liverpool would be crowned champions.
