Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard 'rejects Derby County' amid Frank Lampard to Chelsea reports

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has reportedly turned down the chance to manage in England after rejecting an offer from Championship side Derby County.

The Rams are set to lose Frank Lampard to Chelsea as the Blues' great prepares to potentially take over the job at Stamford Bridge from Maurizio Sarri, who has now been installed as the new boss of Juventus.

It's not a foregone conclusion that Lampard leaves Derby with a compensation fee of £4m to pay and no official approach made as yet, but the odds are Gerrard's former England team-mate will re-join Chelsea.

This development led to Derby reaching out to Gerrard but the Rams have had their offer turned down by the former England international, according to The Times .

Gerrard finished his Liverpool career back in 2015 before briefly joining La Galaxy. The former Champions League winner eventually retired in 2016 and took up a youth coaching position at the Reds.

He was appointed the Liverpool youth coach and also took charge of the under-18s and under-19s sides during the 2017/18 season before Rangers came calling.

The former playmaker enjoyed a solid first season in Glasgow as he guided Rangers to a second-place finish, while the team also beat rivals Celtic last December - the first win against Celtic since 2012.

Gerrard currently has three seasons to run on his deal and has decided to stay put for now, though his coaching trajectory would suggest he will be managing in England sooner rather than later, most likely in the Premier League.
