Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler takes first managerial role

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler is taking over as the new manager of Australian A-League side Brisbane Roar.

The former forward - who is the sixth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history - will be officially announced as the club's new boss on Tuesday, taking over from the former Portsmouth and Coventry forward John Aloisi as boss.

Fowler, 44, spent two years in Australia towards the end of his playing career, turning out for North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory.

The Sydney Morning Herald report that he'll be in attendance at Brisbane's final A-League game of the season on Tuesday, before which he'll be presented to the media.

Fowler did briefly take up a player-coach role at Muangthong United in Thailand in what was his final club as a player, but the Brisbane appointment is his first as a full-time manager.

The Herald also report that Fowler beat the former Wales international midfielder Carl Robinson to the role, as well as the club's current caretaker manager Darren Davies.

Brisbane have endured a poor season in the A-League, winning just four of their 26 matches.
