Liverpool legend returns to Anfield as stunning new mural unveiled

A stunning new mural celebrating Liverpool legend Alan Kennedy has been unveiled in Anfield.

The tribute, put together by street art specialists MurWalls, comes just a few days after Steven Gerrard was also honoured on Dinorwic Road .

Kennedy’s artwork is situated in the same street, where the iconic image of the ex-Red holding the 1981 European Cup is decorated on the side of the Dinorwic Lodge, a local bed and breakfast property.

The project was the latest undertaken by MurWalls, who have been responsible for other celebrations of Liverpool heroes in the city, including Jamie Carragher , Jordan Henderson and Ray Clemence.

Scoring the only goal of the game in the 1981 European Cup final against Real Madrid, Kennedy’s surging run into the penalty area helped the club lift the trophy for the third time.

Having also scored the decisive penalty in the shootout when the Reds regained the title in 1984, the 67-year-old has already been pictured in front of the mural, while taking photos and signing autographs with supporters.

Mark Meana, Snotone, and Liam Bononi were the artists responsible for completing the Gerrard and Kennedy pieces for MurWalls, as tributes to the club’s greatest-ever players continue to appear in the local area.

MurWalls have also composed murals celebrating the other half of the city, having been responsible for the commemoration of five ex-Blues in the Baltic Triangle , as well as another celebrating Duncan Ferguson near to Goodison Park.

With Kennedy having been an integral part of Liverpool’s success in the 1980s, he was always a man for the big occasion.

Alongside playing a pivotal role in two European Cup successes, the former left-back scored in two League Cup finals and won five league titles throughout his eight years at Anfield.
