Liverpool legend puts Man City star in place after Champions League outburst

John Aldridge has let Bernardo Silva know how 'poor' Man City have been this season after they crashed out of the Champions League.

The League Cup winners were favourites for European glory this term but succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of French outfit Lyon during the quarter finals on Saturday night.

Liverpool fans were naturally buoyed by the result - and it didn't take long before some Reds let Man City players and fans know exactly what they thought about the result across social media.

After supporters had reacted to the match, Bernardo sent out a rallying cry promising to strive for better next season.

He tweeted: "The 2019/2020 season has ended for us in a very disappointing way. To all the fans, we’re sorry for this frustrating season.

"The only thing we can promise is that in 2020/2021 we’ll fight a lot to do much better and get back to winning important things for you guys!"

And he followed that up with another message - this time for the attention of Reds supporters.

He said: "And to all Liverpool fans that have nothing else to do than to come to a Man City player account, I’m also sorry for you but for the wrong reasons...

"[P]athetic...go celebrate your titles, or try to find a partner, drink a beer with a friend, read a book...

"[S]o many options!"

In response to the second tweet, former Liverpool striker Aldridge told Bernardo how "poor" his side have been this term and "not to fret".

The former Reds star wrote: "Bernardo don’t fret about LFC fans, worry about your game, you’ve been poor this season! Enjoying my pint with my amigos, ynwa".
