Welcome to the latest edition of the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we run through some of the most eye-catching stories of the day.
Manchester United travel to West Ham this weekend and some of the talking points include squad harmony, the future of Donny van de Beek, and if Greenwood can bring home an award United are familiar with.
Jamie Carragher claims Cristiano Ronaldo will cause ‘problems’
Despite anyone associated with Manchester United being ecstatic over the return of club legend Cristiano Ronaldo, there are still a few reservations on the impact Ronaldo will have - for pundits, at least.
Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has highlighted his concerns with the return of Ronaldo, believing it may have a negative impact on the squad.
“When fit, he will start as the centre-forward. That means others will have their positions regularly shifted. Coaches like to say that they welcome selection headaches.” stated Carragher in his column for The Telegraph.
“If you become too concerned about getting players game time, it can have an unsettling impact on the balance of the side and consistency of performances.”
Although it will be claimed by Carragher his comments are purely from an analytic perspective, he will certainly enjoy ruffling the feathers of United fans by suggesting Ronaldo may cause issues for the club.
Former United striker expresses doubt over Donny van de Beek
Dimitar Berbatov enjoyed a successful spell during his time at Old Trafford, picking up two Premier League titles in his four seasons at United. One player in the current side who would love to emulate the success Berbatov had at United, is Donny van de Beek. However, the former United striker believes that time is of the essence for van de Beek at the club.
The Bulgarian told Betfair: "Van de Beek looks lost. He is running out of time to save his United career. He started against Young Boys but was substituted at half-time. This has been the story of his time at the club”
“If he plays, he’s brought off. If he comes on, he gets 10 minutes. He never gets the chance to settle and show what he can do. It’s just not working out for Van de Beek. It’s a pity because United paid big money for him. But this is what happens when you spend money just to satisfy your fans.
“I still hope he gets a proper chance but it is going to be very difficult for him and the club may decide to cut their losses if they can.”
Greenwood gets closer to the prestigious award
Mason Greenwood has been nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy award. Greenwood has started the season exceptionally, scoring three goals in the Premier League already.
He will hope to follow in the footsteps of former United winners such as Wayne Rooney, Anderson, and Anthony Martial by securing the highly-respected award.
