Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish applauds NHS during 'Clap for our Carers' as he recovers from coronavirus

Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish joined the nation in Thursday's weekly 'Clap for our Carers' to show his appreciation and support for the NHS.

Despite showing no symptoms of the virus, he 69-year-old tested positive for Covid-19 last week while in hospital receiving treatment on gallstones.

Dalglish was discharged over the weekend and returned home to recover in self-isolation.

The former Liverpool, Celtic and Scotland forward has since been full of praise for the "brilliant" NHS and on Thursday night joined his family in clapping in support of NHS and key workers.

It was the fourth time the country have come together to show their gratitude for the NHS and key workers in such a fashion during the coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday, Dalglish's daughter Kelly Cates provided an update on her father's condition while presenting on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"He's doing all right," she said. "My mum's got a patio that needs jet washing so we need him up and about as soon as possible."

She added: "He's good. He's not quite up and 100 per cent yet but he's not too bad at all."

After leaving hospital, Dalglish said of the NHS staff: "They were absolutely brilliant.

"As a nation, we are very lucky to have them. I wish them well as they continue to work.

"It's never easy being in hospital but when you are in the care of our NHS staff then it is wholly comforting. You know you are in good hands."
