Liverpool legend John Barnes comes up with radical Premier League 'solution'

Liverpool legend John Barnes has provided a new ‘solution’ over how best to solve the issues caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The COVID-19 outbreak has led to professional football across the UK and Europe being suspended, with some countries already calling an end to their respective seasons.

In the Netherlands, the Eredivisie has been null and voided, while France has banned all sporting activity until September, at the earliest, meaning Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 will be ended.

The Premier League have reiterated their desire ton complete the campaign when it is safe to do so, with a meeting due to take place on Friday to discuss how best to finish the season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are 25 points clear at the top of the table, two wins away from securing their first league title since 1990.

Former Reds forward Barnes, who was part of the last Liverpool side to lift the title, has offered a new ‘solution’ on how the season could be completed, and how next season could be impacted.

“Whenever we can start to play football again, even if it’s four months finish season nine games then go straight into next season after two weeks break,” said Barnes.

“We won’t need a two month break to start next season as players would have been off for two/three months already.”
