Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher takes three ruthless digs at Gary Neville after Man United defeat

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has aimed a hat-trick of digs at Gary Neville following Manchester United’s defeat in the Europa League final.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side tasted defeat to Villarreal in the Europa League showpiece after losing on a penalty shootout.

The match went to penalties after the tie finished 1-1 after extra time, with Gerard Moreno and Edinson Cavani on the scoresheet.

The resulting shootout saw all 11 Villarreal players score, as did the first 10 Man United players before David De Gea missed his spot kick to see the La Liga club win their first major trophy in their history.

Carragher took to Twitter to aim a dig at Neville after Man United’s defeat, referencing a previous tweet from the ex-Red Devils captain.

“Man United joint winners," Carragher wrote.

This appears to be in reference to when Neville posted a tweet back in January when Man United were "joint-top" of the Premier League on New Year’s Day.

It was a tweet Carragher also referenced after Man United lost to Manchester City in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final in January.

Carragher didn’t stop there with the social media digs at his Sky Sports colleague, with another showing a screenshot of Neville’s Instagram story which featured an image of Cadbury’s ‘Find a Legend’ advert starring the former Man United full-back.

And there was a third hit to come this morning.

Earlier today Neville tweeted his thoughts on the match, posting: "You can’t switch performance on and off like a tap. Haven’t played well for weeks and last night a continuation of the form recently . Pressure will be applied to Ole and the team. Rightly so. Need to get it right this summer and a good start to next season needed badly!"

Carragher simply replied with a picture of his own delighted face with a less-than-impressed Neville in the background.

If that wasn’t enough, Carragher has also been retweeting several of Neville’s previous tweets where he reacted to Liverpool defeats earlier in the season.
