Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher sends special video message for 11-year-old Dublin superfan Sean McCabe

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has recorded a special video message for a heroic young Dublin boy to thank him for his amazing charitable work during lockdown.

The residents of Canon Mooney Gardens in Ringsend have delighted the nation with footage of weekly bingo nights and dancing sessions going viral.

Eleven-year-old resident Sean McCabe has been heavily involved in the activities and despite having a rare condition that makes it difficult for him to walk, he still managed to raise €1,000 for charity by doing 50 laps of the flat complex.

The Liverpool superfan's amazing efforts have caught the attention of the former Reds vice-captain who recorded a special video thanking Sean and the residents of the southside complex and giving them a very special gift.

In the video, the Champions League winner said: "Hi Seán, a little birdie tells me you're a huge Liverpool fan so I just want to send you a message (and Seán Senior, your dad!) and everyone at Canon Mooney Gardens, for the community spirit you're showing and the inspiration you're showing to everyone around that area.

"Now I know you are both huge Liverpool fans and I'm delighted that NOW TV have given you a Pass so that you can watch all the games and you're gonna watch Liverpool win the title. And I'm telling you Seán, it's a formality!

"Because you and every Liverpool supporter have waited that long and what you've given in Canon Mooney Gardens, is absolutely superb. So they're gonna pay you back and you're going to see see Liverpool win the title on Sky Sports."

The video was screened at the flat complex ahead of the weekly movie night which is organised by resident Michael Larkin.

Michael said: There are loads of Liverpool fans in Canon Mooney Gardens and young Seán McCabe is probably the biggest one of them all, so to get that message from Carragher was just unbelievable, totally surreal.

"We do our best here to keep up the spirits in the community and we’re thrilled that we’ll all be able to watch the Liverpool Everton game together in the flats on Sunday.”

And when young Sean was asked who would win the derby he had just one response - "COME ON LIVERPOOL".

Michael Forry, Head of NOW TV, said: “All throughout the lockdown, the residents of Canon Mooney Gardens have been running weekly events in their community, epitomising what it means to stay together whilst having to stay apart, and inspiring others along the way, so this is just a small way for us to show our appreciation.”
