Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher raises question about Nathan Ake transfer to Man City

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has raised a question around Manchester City's decision to make a move for Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake.

The 25-year-old has starred for the Cherries since 2017 after he made the switch from Chelsea.

But now the centre-back has come on leaps and bounds and City have reportedly had a £41million bid accepted by Bournemouth.

City have struggled defensively this season due to the departure of former captain Vincent Kompany and the injury issues that Aymeric Laporte has suffered.

Laporte, however, is the mainstay in the defence for the club and will be for the long-term, with Ake potentially linking up with him at the back.

But Carragher feels that having two left-footed centre-backs may create problems for Pep Guardiola's men as they bid to dethrone the Reds next term.

Former Liverpool star turned Sky Sports pundit Carragher explained on Twitter: "I like Nathan Ake & I think he will suit Man City, but with Laporte a guaranteed starter I’m not convinced two left footed centre backs works?

"I know right footed players play together but it never feels right the other way round to me! Left back or a Back 3."

Sky Sports claim that talks between City and the Dutch defender had begun before the end of the Premier League season, but Bournemouth's relegation has now all-but confirmed Ake's exit from the club.
