Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher helped raise £12,000 for local community on lockdown

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has helped to raise £12,000 for Fans Supporting Foodbanks and local parents during lockdown alongside community initiative Kit It Out.

Carragher auctioned off a selection off football shirts he had collected during his career alongside signed photos and memorabilia.

Kit It Out - launched by Everton supporter Paul Morgan last year - aims to bring football kits to underprivileged children in Liverpool and they have plans to continue their work in the near future.

"We got kits off Jamie Carragher," Morgan told the ECHO.

"He donated his shirts, and from there we raised £12,000.

"We gave £6,000 to Fans Supporting Foodbanks, another £3,000 to the Jamie Carragher Foundation and with the rest sent family packs to parents and families who were working from home and maybe didn't have the necessary equipment to home-school.

"We have had a GoFundMe page set up and have recently got to £700 so we're going to use that to buy new Everton and Liverpool kits for kids in the community in the next few weeks.

"The new kits come out and families are looking at £70, £80. It's getting a bit out of the price range now. If you've got one, two or three kids it's just not going to happen.

"If we can get football kits to someone who wouldn't have one, even if it's just one kid, you're doing something for someone else."
