Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher defends Gary Neville comments after Manchester United's defeat to City

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has jumped to the defence of Sky Sports colleague Gary Neville.

Carragher's protection of Neville came after Manchester United's 2-0 defeat at home to local rivals Manchester City.

His former England team-mate believed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side had played as well as they had all season but Roy Keane wasn't convinced and disputed Neville's opinion.

While Keane couldn't hide his disagreement from his former team-mate as he rolled his eyes.

Neville admitted: "I think that is as good as United have got."

To which Keane quickly interrupted: "They've had one shot on target Gary! One shot on target at home."

The former England international continued: "What we saw there tonight between Manchester United and Manchester City is the gulf in class between the two teams.

"I don't think I looked at any player on that pitch and thought that they could have given more, that is what they are."

Keane replied: "You need to see Fred for the second goal if you are on about players giving it all.

"That is not giving his all, that is cheating. Just cheating letting the guy run off him."

Carragher who commentated on the match at Old Trafford took to Twitter to defend his pal.

The former defender wrote: "Leave my Gary Neville alone".

His tweet received over 9,000 likes.
