Liverpool legend involved in 'bust up' as Covid-hit Reds grind out record win

It was a big night for Liverpool as they came back from a goal behind to beat Newcastle United 3-1 – and break a record in the process.

Mohamed Salah bagged his 22nd strike of the season after Diogo Jota had equalised former Reds midfielder Jonjo Shelvey’s early effort.

Trent Alexander-Arnold made sure of the three points with a 25-yard effort as the Reds kept just a point off the top of the Premier League table.

But the win came after the club was plunged into the league's Covid crisis just hours earlier.

And a Liverpool legend has been involved in a heated TV bust-up.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Liverpool headlines.

Reds secure record win

The win against Newcastle at Anfield on Thursday night was Liverpool's 2,000th English top-flight win.

It means the Reds are the first team in English history to get to 2,000 victories in the top flight, but Mo Salah has also equalled a huge record as well.

Salah's goal means he has now scored or assisted in 15 consecutive Premier League games – the same as Jamie Vardy's record.

Mirror Football has details of those records, and all the other talking points from the game as well.

Covid crisis hits Reds

The Premier League's Covid crisis has now hit Liverpool who have three players out with the virus.

Curtis Jones, Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho have all tested positive for Covid-19, with the latter two getting their positive test results just hours before the clash with Newcastle.

It comes as several Premier League fixtures have had to be cancelled as the new Omicron variant ravages English football.

The three Liverpool stars are now isolating as the club takes measures to prevent further spread of the virus.

Legend involved in TV bust-up

Liverpool Legend Didi Hamann has been involved in a heated TV bust-up with Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose.

After Dortmund secured a 3-0 win over Bundesliga rivals Furth over the weekend, TV pundit Hamann had still been critical of the side's performance.

"You have 12:8 shots on goal against a relegation candidate [Dortmund 12-8 Furth], that's not enough for me," said the ex-midfielder, as quoted by German outlet Bild.

But Dortmund boss Rose has angrily hit back at the former Liverpool man.
