Liverpool legend identifies what Tottenham must improve upon after defeat at Man City

Graeme Souness says Tottenham need to improve their away record against other 'big six' sides if they are to continue to be successful in the Premier League.

Spurs currently sit third in the Premier League, despite losing out 1-0 against Manchester City yesterday (Saturday), with Phil Foden netting the only goal of the game at the Etihad Stadium.

That was Spurs' 11th defeat in the Premier League this season, and their seventh loss away from home in the top flight, with Mauricio Pochettino's men losing eight games away from home in all competitions since the turn of the year.

What Pep Guardiola said about Liverpool & the title race after Man City's win against Spurs

And Souness says that is something Tottenham need to improve upon if they are to continue to challenge towards the top of the table.

"They have developed, they took part in a fabulous game in midweek and they’ve done the same again," the former Liverpool midfielder said, speaking as a pundit during Sky Sports' coverage of the game at the Etihad Stadium.

"I think they’ve lost lots of games away from home back-to-back against big teams and that’s something they need to improve upon next year if they want to challenge for this league.

Graeme Souness pinpoints how Tottenham proved him wrong against Manchester City

“Tottenham are a really good team. It’s not a big enough squad but when they’ve got their best 11 on the pitch they’re a match for anyone, we’ve seen that time and time again. Over a long, hard season if you go far in a European competition, you need more players.”
