Liverpool legend Ian Rush's holiday home burgled while he lifts European Cup

While Ian Rush was lifting the European Cup in Madrid on Saturday night, burglars were lifting items from his villa in Portugal.

The Liverpool legend's holiday home in the Algarve was broken into on Saturday night, with thieves taking advantage of the fact he was clearly visible on television around the world as a UEFA ambassador at the Champions League final.

But Rushie refused to be down-hearted after discovering the break in this week.

He told the Echo: "It still didn't dampen my spirits as I'm still celebrating that fantastic win!"

Ian was asked to be a UEFA ambassador again this year for the final, a role he first fulfilled in 2017. And he added: "It was an absolute honour to hand the trophy to Liverpool , who more than deserved the trophy!"

Spine-tingling rendition of YNWA sounds out in Madrid fan park

While the Champions League final night ended gloriously for the Reds legend, it started with him forced to walk two-and-a-half miles to the stadium in 35 degrees with Reds owner John Henry, after traffic became gridlocked around the stadium.

Rush was a European Cup winner in 1984, when he scored an incredible 47 goals in all competitions. His top-flight tally of 32 made him the first British recipient of the European Golden Shoe.
