Liverpool legend Ian Rush makes Jurgen Klopp and Bob Paisley comparison

Liverpool legend Ian Rush says current boss Jurgen Klopp has similar qualities to iconic manager Bob Paisley.

Paisley spent almost 50 years at LFC in many roles, most notably as manager from 1974 to 1983 - a spell in which he led the Reds to 19 trophies, including six league titles and three European Cups.

Klopp's Reds are currently European champions and 19 points clear at the top of the Premier League heading into the weekend of action, with their game against Southampton coming before Manchester City face Tottenham.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rush said: "Jurgen has got a great team around him but you need a leader – Bob Paisley was a leader and Jurgen Klopp is a leader.

"He also gets to the supporters as well. The fans react to what he says and so do the players, and that’s down to Jurgen Klopp.

"Paisley always used to say the easiest thing is to win the league, the hardest thing is to win it again and that’s true.

"Liverpool were fantastic last year and didn’t win the league, but they have to go one better this year.

"To [become one of the all-time greats] you've got to be successful and not just win the Champions League, but win the Premier League."

Liverpool look likely to become champions for the first time in three decades, while their Champions League defence continues with a last-16 clash against Atletico Madrid, taking place in a couple of week's time.
