Liverpool legend explains how Tottenham have helped the Reds in the Premier League title race

Tottenham have helped Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

That's the view of Jamie Carragher anyway.

Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

They are two points clear of Manchester City in second, although City have a game in hand on their rivals.

It was Liverpool's toughest looking game on paper, and they negotiated it comfortably, with City still to play Tottenham and Manchester United in their run-in.

Why Tiger Woods' stunning Masters win should excite Tottenham fans

The Reds beat Spurs 2-1 at Anfield just two weeks previously, thanks to a last minute Toby Alderweireld own goal.

It came after Hugo Lloris failed to deal with a weak Mo Salah header and Reds legend Carragher thinks that moment will help Liverpool and Salah in particular in the run-in.

Salah netted a stunning strike to make it 2-0 against Chelsea and Carragher can see confidence oozing out of him now.

Asked if that moment against Tottenham put Salah back on track, Carragher said: "Yes, I think, the reaction when he came off, the Mo Salah song belting out from the Kop, there hasn’t been too many moments like that in 2019 for Salah.

"Yes he’s the top scorer. He was never going to achieve what he did last season in terms of goals, but he’s been lacking those game changing moments and I think the Spurs one was huge.

What Chelsea's defeat to Liverpool means for Arsenal, Spurs and Man United in race for top four

"I know it was an own goal, but I think he felt part of it. We spoke to him after the game. The top comes off.

"I think if you get Salah somewhere close to where he was at last season - that buzz, that feeling, that he’s the most important man in the team, getting the defining goals, it does Liverpool a great chance."
