Liverpool legend believes Premier League-winning squad are now 'immortal'

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes the current group of Reds stars have become 'immortal'.

Jurgen Klopp and his men were crowned Premier League champions on Thursday night, claiming the club's first league win in 30 years.

Manchester City's defeat to Chelsea meant Liverpool officially won their first ever Premier League title, and that is cause enough for the current squad to be 'immortal'.

That's the belief of former player Thompson, who told Sky Sports : “They have become immortal for what they have done for this football club.

"You see all of those fans, social distancing of course, it’s really hard for them not to celebrate tonight.”

Thompson also says Liverpool need not worry about any potential challengers heading into next year.

“I’m just listening to the guys there and we’re all so enthused about Liverpool and the way we play," he added.

"Who’s going to be challenging? We don’t think about Manchester City, United, what they’re going to do. Now we’re in our position, you strengthen whilst you’re on top.

"We’ve all been there and we think we’re sitting comfortably here. Next thing you know, Kenny as a striker comes through the door.

"Myself as a defender comes through the door, you’re looking over your shoulder all of the time.

"Whilst you’re on top, you have to strengthen. I think that’s what Liverpool have to do. Forget about the other teams, it’s all about us.”
