Liverpool legend and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard pays tribute to champions

Steven Gerrard has posted a tribute to Liverpool on social media after his former club finally ended their wait to lift the Premier League trophy.

Captain Jordan Henderson got his hands on it after his side's 5-3 win over Chelsea, and his predecessor was in a celebratory mood.

Gerrard was close to winning the title in 2014, but Brendan Rodgers' side couldn't get over the line on that occasion and Manchester City finished top.

This time, however, City couldn't get close to Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp's men wrapped up the title with weeks to spare.

Gerrard shared an image of Henderson lifting the trophy on Instagram, adding the word "Champions" as well as love heart and clapping hand emojis.

The Rangers boss, who made 710 appearances for Liverpool and scored 186 goals, shared a longer post when Klopp's side wrapped up the title in June.

Gerrard said: "Congratulations to all @liverpoolfc on winning the Premier League.

"Incredible achievement from a fantastic squad of top players. Led by a world class manager and coaching team also a special mention for the backing from FSG.

"And lastly and most importantly the fans who have waited 30 years. Let the party begin."

Gerrard's Rangers team beat Motherwell 4-0 on Wednesday night in a pre-season friendly at Ibrox.
