Liverpool legend and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard congratulates former side on title win

Steven Gerrard has paid tribute to Liverpool following confirmation that they've won their first title in 30 year.s

Chelsea's 2-1 win over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge was enough to ensure that there was no way back for Pep Guardiola's side.

Gerrard came agonisingly close to ending Liverpool's long wait for a title in 2014, and he was delighted to see Jurgen Klopp and his men get over the line this time.

In a post on his Instagram account, Gerrard said: "Congratulations to all @liverpoolfc on winning the Premier League.

"Incredible achievement from a fantastic squad of top players. Led by a world class manager and coaching team also a special mention for the backing from FSG.

"And lastly and most importantly the fans who have waited 30 years. Let the party begin."

Gerrard made 710 appearances for the Anfield club, scoring 186 goals.

Although he failed to win a league title, he did win the Champions League, UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, two FA Cups and three League Cups.

Gerrard took over at Rangers in the summer of 2018 and this week added former Hearts and Sunderland keeper Jon McLaughlin to his squad ahead of the new season.
