Liverpool 'lead race to sign Lorenzo Insigne after striker's rift with Napoli'

Liverpool are reportedly leading the chase to sign Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne this summer.

Insigne has come through the ranks at Napoli, and has scored 76 goals in 302 appearances for the Italian giants.

But his relationship with the club has reportedly broken and he was booed by his own fans during last week’s Europa League defeat by Arsenal .

It is reported that Insigne was frustrated by manager Carlo Ancelotti's decision to substitute him in that loss, and the relationship between the pair is fractured.

This latest development has no doubt alerted potential suitors, with Napoli willing to move their captain on this summer if the price is right.

Corriere dello Sport have claimed that the Italians value their star man at £60million, and clubs are lining up in the race to sign the striker.

Liverpool , it is claimed, are among the frontrunners to seal his signature as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his attacking ranks.

Insigne would add more competition to Liverpool's already uber-talented front line - with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri already situated on Merseyside.

The 27-year-old, who has been capped 30 times by Italy, has a contract at Napoli until the summer of 2022.

Their Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested but their current transfer ban prevents them from registering new players.

Paris Saint-Germain are also keen, as are German giants Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

Inter have previously been linked with a move for Insigne, and could include wantaway striker Mauro Icardi as part of the deal.
