Liverpool lawyer wins award for Nike kit case and explains main challenge club faced from New Balance

Guy Morpuss has been named The Times' Lawyer of the Week for his role in Liverpool's court case victory over New Balance last month.

A three-day trial was contested in the High Court over the future of the club's kit supply.

The judge ruled in favour of Liverpool over the Boston-based sports brand, which has now paved the way for Nike to become the Reds' new kit manufacturer .

Morpuss, who is the head of advocacy at Macfarlanes, oversaw the victory in London and has revealed what the biggest challenge they faced was.

In an interview with The Times, the QC explained the main issues, he said: "Whether New Balance had matched Nike's offer as to worldwide distribution and athlete/influencer endorsements.

"The main challenge was going from a standing start to a speedy trial in six weeks."

An appeal bid launched by New Balance, who have entered their last season as Liverpool's chief kit supplier, was later dismissed.
