Liverpool launch new partnership with global manufacturer to aid recycling effort

Liverpool have linked up with global manufacturing giant SC Johnson in a bid to tackle plastic waste an Anfield.

The link-up, announced on Thursday, will create a closed loop recycling model for the more than 500,00 plastic bottles that are used at Anfield each season, with fans able to place their bottles in specially designed receptacles around the ground, and the recycled plastic to be used to make new Mr Muscle trigger bottles.

The multi-year partnership, called Goals for Change, will also see a number of other initiatives used to aid sustainability, health and hygiene pathways across Liverpool's community both in the UK and also in Asia and Latin America.

"We launched our sustainability programme the Red Way earlier this year and made a commitment to make a positive difference to out people, our communities and our planet," said Matt Scammell, Liverpool's commercial director.

"SC Johnson has made important step changes within their industry which have delivered incredible results through several sustainability initiatives.

"I feel very optimistic about the work we can do together through this partnership, both raising awareness and looking after the safety of our supporters and ultimately using our voices for good to help the next generation of Reds all around the world."

The partnership will also see Liverpool and SC Johnson work together to focus on health and hygiene, the US firm the club's official cleaning and disinfectant partner.

SC Johnson, whose branding will be visible around Anfield on matchdays, will provide soaps and hand sanitizers throughout the stadium and AXA Training Centre in Kirkby, while SC Johnson Professional will work with Liverpool, who had around 1,500 cleaning stations around the ground prior to the Champions League win over AC Milan on Wednesday, to deliver a new standard of cleaning.

Former Liverpool midfielder and 2005 Champions League winner Luis Garcia said: "To everybody this kind of initiative should be important.

"For me I am a family man, I have four boys, and we are very concerned with the way that we are living on the earth. It is very important that we try to make small actions.

"When two big things like Liverpool and SC Johnson comes together you know that something good has to come from it. It is important we keep passing this initiative to the younger generation."
