Liverpool launch investigation after Man City staff make spitting complaint

Liverpool are investigating after Manchester City made a formal complaint over an alleged spitting incident at Anfield.

City's backroom staff have formalised their complaint after a Liverpool fan was alleged to have spat at someone on Pep Guardiola's team during Sunday's 2-2 draw.

It's reported that they believe the incident, which was likely to have occurred in the Main Stand, was caught on camera and are looking to take the issue further with their hosts.

The ECHO understands that Liverpool are aware of the complaint and have launched their own investigation to establish the full details of what happened.

The dugout at Anfield is currently surrounded by an exclusion zone that the Premier League confirmed this week will be in place for the remainder of the campaign.

That means that supporters are further away from the managers and their staff this season, but City feel they have the evidence to support their complaint.

Asked about the incident at full time, City boss Pep Guardiola believes Liverpool "will take measures" to sanction those responsible.

He said: "I'm pretty sure Liverpool FC will take measures for this guy.

"Liverpool is greater than this person. Liverpool in its history helps to make sport better.

"There are always people that will do that."
