Liverpool join Arsenal in race for Rodrygo as Arne Slot 'drives interest' in £69m Real Madrid star

Arsenal are facing competition from a Premier League rival for the signing of Real Madrid star Rodrygo.

According to journalist Santi Aouna, Liverpool are set to join the race for the 24-year-old.

In addition, the report states that Arne Slot is an admirer of the Brazil international and is driving the club's interest in the winger who can operate on either flank.

Rodrygo faces an uncertain future at Madrid this summer. He was used sparingly during the recent Club World Cup, making just three appearances throughout and was left on the bench in the semi-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Though, the Spanish tactician said in the post-match press conference that his decision was purely based on how the match unfolded.

He said: “These are match decisions. The way the match was going, we needed another profile. There have been no decisions for the future.

“We haven't rotated too much in this Club World Cup and the context will be different in the future.”

However, with Alonso now reportedly open to cashing in on a player who could demand a fee upwards of €80million (£69m), it could be down to Liverpool and Arsenal to fight for Rodrygo’s signature.

PSG have also been linked with a move for Rodrygo and a possible transfer windfall would allow for Madrid to reinforce their squad before the window slams shut.
