Liverpool John Lennon Airport's security update after Women's Hospital terror attack

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has issued a security update after Sunday's terror attack.

The UK's terror threat level has been raised to "severe" following the bomb blast at Liverpool Women's Hospital - meaning an attack is deemed to be "highly likely".

A spokesperson from the airport confirmed to the ECHO that all airports are reviewing measures in light of the increased threat to ensure passenger safety.

A statement said: “Whilst security levels at the airport are already high with heightened staff vigilance, the increase in the national threat level to severe means that all airports review security measures in place and make necessary changes to mitigate risks based on the threat level.

"However there is currently no impact to our passengers or any additional travel restrictions.”

The Home Office minister has provided guidance on what the increased terror threat level means for the UK public.

Damian Hinds appeared on Good Morning Britain earlier this week urging people to remain vigilant after the terror threat level was raised.

He said: "We talk about people being alert rather than alarmed. It's not about changing our daily lives. It is about that heightened vigilance.

"Obviously anyone with information about this incident, please be in touch with North West and Merseyside Police - or you can always contact Crimestoppers anonymously.

He continued: "But more broadly. If people are suspicious and something doesn't look right, please be in touch. Law enforcement relies on everybody's vigilance to support them in their work."

Anyone who has any information can call 0161 856 1027 quoting Liverpool Women's Hospital Incident.

Details can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
