Liverpool issue Yasser Larouci injury update after horror tackle

Liverpool have issued an injury update on Yasser Larouci following the horror tackle on the youngster during Sunday's pre-season friendly defeat to Sevilla in Boston.

The 18-year-old was on the receiving end of a brutal foul that saw Sevilla defender Joris Gnagnon sent off and forced to issue an apology afterwards.

The young Algerian-born defender departed Fenway Park on crutches with his right leg in a brace, with the Liverpool medical team taking no chances over possibly exacerbating any problem.

The bruising was so severe around the injury that the Reds were forced to delay scans to discover the precise nature of any damage.

The club have now confirmed they are hopeful the injury is not serious.

Larouci has suffered heavy bruising to his femur bone and the club's medical team will continue to monitor the injury but are hopeful the player will only be out of action for no more than 'a matter of weeks'.

Larouci has been one of the breakthrough stars of pre-season and was again encouraging before being scythed down by Gnagnon.

The Sevilla man later apologised on social media with his club also sending their well wishes to Larouci.
