Liverpool issue strong response after fan threatens to give up season ticket over Black Lives Matter support

Liverpool have issued a strong response after a season ticket holder complained about the club's support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

Many footballers and clubs have demonstrated their support for the Black Lives Matter movement following two weeks of global protests after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, USA.

And earlier on Friday evening it was confirmed that Premier League players names' will be replaced with the Black Lives Matters logo for the first 12 matches when top flight football returns next week.

A fan who claims to hold a season ticket tweeted the official Liverpool FC Twitter account and club CEO Peter Moore on Thursday asking the club not to put the Black Lives Matter logo on the club's shirt.

The tweet read: "Please don't have the Black Lives Matter on the back of Liverpool shirts.

"If you have to have one, how about all lives matter or NHS.

"I will give up my season ticket if this happens.. I know there's a lot in the queue but I'm not supporting bowing down to thugs."

On Friday evening, a series of tweets were sent from the @LFCHelp Twitter account - the official club account for LFC Fan Services - in reply.

They read: "Sorry you feel this way but our values as a club incorporate equality, diversity and inclusion.

"Black Lives Matter is not merely a slogan, it is a principle that our players and the club as a whole support unequivocally.

"We will be putting Black Lives Matter on our kit.  We will also be continuing our work to support the NHS.

"We’re proud of our equality work and would like to offer you the chance to learn more. If interested please contact RedTogether@liverpoolfc.com

"If you would prefer to relinquish your season ticket, please contact us at @LFCHelp to discuss further."
