Liverpool issue major Roberto Firmino fitness update ahead of Champions League final

Roberto Firmino is expected to hand Liverpool a Champions League final boost by making a return to full training on Thursday.

Firmino, absent for four of the Reds' final five games with a groin issue, was given the green light to join his team-mates for the first session of their training camp in Marbella on Tuesday.

He has gradually built up involvement in Spain and is now ready to resume working fully with his team-mates as they prepare for the showpiece against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid on June 1.

“Bobby looks really good (and) he is now part of training,” said Reds boss Jurgen Klopp on Wednesday.

“It was not too long out, but of course we are still careful and want to make sure nothing happens.

“We have a few days still and want to use them, that’s why he is in, out, in, out."

Klopp, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, added: "Yesterday, he was only playing as a ‘joker’ (in the small-sided games) but it is good for him, the first step to play football again.

“Today he was in around about 70% of the session. Tomorrow he will probably be in completely, we will see, then hopefully it will be fine.”
