'Liverpool is very popular with him' - Thiago Alcantara future addressed by Bayern Munich legend

Recent reports linking Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool all point to the player’s exit from Bayern Munich, according to one club legend.

The Spain international continues to be tipped to join Jurgen Klopp’s side this summer, with the Bundesliga champions thought to be keen on cashing in on his services.

It has been claimed that Bayern would be willing to sell the 29-year-old for around £30m this summer, with Thiago spending the last seven seasons in Munich.

Despite the reports linking the Reds with a move for Thiago, the ECHO understands the club have no plans of making a move for the player at this present time.

And Jurgen Klopp also refused to be drawn on the speculation when asked about Thiago following Sunday’s win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The boss said: "Thiago Alcantara is a really good player. Like a lot of other players out there, I like (him) a lot. But that’s all I have to say about that.”

However, Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus believes that the latest rumours could point towards the player moving to Anfield.

"[For] Thiago, I'm pretty sure the signs are goodbye,” Matthaus told Sport Buzzer, in a translated interview.

“What else would he have for not having accepted Bayern's offer?

“Liverpool is obviously very popular with him and he would absolutely love the football and the team from Jürgen Klopp fit.”
