Liverpool invite goalkeeper to training camp as Jurgen Klopp eyes summer deal

Liverpool are weighing up a move for Spanish goalkeeper Javi Cendon after inviting the youngster to their training camp in Austria.

Cendon, 19, is without a club after leaving Villarreal at the end of last season and was called to the Reds' base to work under goalkeeping coach John Achterberg and assistant goalkeeping coach Jack Robinson.

He has been training alongside first-choice shot-stopper Alisson and back-up options Adrian, Caoimhin Kelleher and Loris Karius.

Cendon will return to Liverpool's Melwood complex to continue training with the first team before manager Jurgen Klopp makes a decision on his future, while the Liverpool Echo reports he has impressed thus far.

Cendon has featured for Spain at a youth level and reached the final of the Dallas Cup - an annual competition for youth teams - with Villarreal U19 last year.

He was also part of the team which beat Atletico Madrid 3-0 to win the Spanish Youth Cup last year, in Villarreal's first triumph in the competition.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been preparing for the coming campaign and ran out winners in their first pre-season friendly match on Saturday, beating Bundesliga side Stuttgart 3-0.

Roberto Firmino put the Reds in front from Curtis Jones' pass before the Brazilian added to his goal with an assist for Naby Keita. 20-year-old striker Rhian Brewster netted his side's third goal and remains the subject of loan interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

Liverpool will play their second friendly of pre-season on Tuesday afternoon as they face Austrian champions RB Salzburg.

The Reds then return to the UK for their Community Shield clash with Arsenal on Saturday as they continue their preparations for start of the Premier League's 2020/21 campaign on 12 September.

Liverpool host newly-promoted Leeds United in their first league game of the season before a challenging run of fixtures sees them face London duo Chelsea and Arsenal.
